Practical Shooting Adventure
Practical Shooting Adventure
Practical Shooting is a fast-paced shooting sport featuring holster draw and movement while engaging multiple targets on the clock. Based on the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) format, the idea is to promote and develop shooting skills beyond just marksmanship to include adaptability, strategy, tactical thinking and firearm mastery. And have FUN!
We call our game the Monday Night Practical Shooting Adventure (MNPSA) because our matches are held on Monday evenings pretty much continuously throughout the year except in the months of May, September and December. During the Fall, Winter and Spring months we shoot indoors at the Bullet Trap in Macon. For the summer months, we move outdoors to our range in Dalton City.

At each weekly competition, the range is set up with multiple silhouette targets that you engage while moving from one point to another as specified in the Course Of Fire (COF). The setup changes each week. Typically a match consists of two or three runs at the course and requires 40-50 rounds of ammo. The shooter begins a run from a standing position with a loaded firearm, either holstered (centerfire) or held at low-ready (rimfire). On signal from the range officer, the shooter begins firing according to the COF. When complete, the shooter clears the firearm and reholsters.
No fancy equipment is necessary. Just a reliable handgun of any caliber, a suitable outside the waistband strong-side holster and at least two magazines (three if capacity is 10 rounds or less). This is not a league where you have to commit to shooting every week. Shoot as often as you like; whatever fits your schedule.
So if you would like to try our game, stop in any Monday evening at 5:00 to get started.
And don’t think you are not good enough, especially if you are new to shooting. Regular shooting is the best way to improve your skills. You will get better every time you step up to the firing line. Some 50 plus shooters have participated in this competition since its inception, most or them are probably no better than you. And there is no shortage of support from veteran shooters. You have nothing to lose except having a lot of fun with like-minded new friends.
